Just after 8 pm the Sioux City Fire Department was called to the 1900 block of W 3rd St after neighbors saw smoke coming from the home.

Responding unit found smoke coming from the upstairs of the residence. While searching the home for occupants, firefighters found two unresponsive dogs. No one was home at the time of the fire. Sioux City Animal Control was called to the scene to care for the animals who had passed away.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
