Five injured three fatally after head-on Collision on Interstate 29 Sunday

A crash report from Iowa State Patrol says that five people were injured two fatally in a crash at Mile Marker 99 on Interstate 29 Sunday, September 2nd at 6:18 PM

The report says that a 2017 Cadillac XTS was Northbound on Interstate 29 when it left the roadway went through the median and entered the Southbound lanes sideswiping a 2005 Chrysler 300 and then hitting a 2008 Ford F450 pulling a horse trailer with 3 horses head-on.

An 80-year-old male from Rock Valley Iowa and a 65-year-old female from Knightstown, Indiana were killed in the crash. A 77-year-old female from Rock Valley, 66-year-old Male from Shirley, Indiana, and a 52-year-old female from Shirley, Indiana were all injured and transported to hospitals by ambulance or helicopter.

What caused the vehicle to go off the road and cross into oncoming traffic is not known. The horses were reported to not be injured and were removed from the scene after being seen by a vet.

Iowa State Patrol along with Monona County Sheriff's Office, Harrison County Sheriff's Office, Mercy Air Care, Fire and EMS from multiple agencies including Onawa, Little Sioux, Mondamin and Blencoe all responded to the crash. Stockton Towing removed the vehicles from the scene. The interstate Southbound Traffic from Blencoe to Little Sioux was closed for about 5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
