Police responded to the 200 Block of Alice in the Greenville neighborhood of Sioux City after numerous 911 calls about 10:22 pm for reports of shots being fired.

Once on scene police located a car that had crashed into a tree with a man with a gunshot wound to the head behind the wheel. The man who has not been identified was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and is currently in critical condition.

Police say that numerous shots were fired, only one struck the victim but some homes in the area did receive damage from stray bullets. Many witnesses were interviewed and evidence collected from the scene, additionally, a search warrant was executed on a home near the crash site.

The investigation is ongoing and police are not releasing additional information at this time.
