Le Mars bank robber attempts to get away in a Uhaul truck in Plymouth County Wednesday

Two arrested in Plymouth County on charges of Theft 1st, Robbery 2nd and Eluding. Charged are Phillip Edward White, 32 and Karen Rose Merrick, 35.

At 2:25 pm on Wednesday, December 12th a Robbery was reported at Iowa State Bank at 301 Plymouth Street NW in Le Mars Iowa. A witness spotted a man running from the bank and get into a U-Haul truck.


A Plymouth County Deputy spotted the vehicle a short time later and attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle did not stop. The pursuit continued into the Southwest part of Plymouth County. Stop sticks were deployed in the area of K18 and C44 causing the tires of the truck to deflate.

The truck left the roadway on K18 North not far from Highway 12 where two subjects, a male, and a female were taken into custody. An undisclosed amount of money was recovered at the scene. The truck was secured and removed from the scene and towed back to Le Mars while awaiting a search warrant.

No injuries were reported in the robbery or pursuit, there was substantial damage to the U-Haul truck and minor damage to an Iowa State Patrol Vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are expected to be filed late Wednesday.


Le Mars Police were assisted by Plymouth County Sheriffs Office, Merrill Police, Hinton Police, Remsen Police, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation, and the FBI.
