Iowa State Patrol crash report says that two people died as a result of a head-on collision on Interstate 29 Milemarker 104.4 near Blencoe, Iowa at 10:53 pm Wednesday Evening.
Initial reports indicate a 2016 Dodge Caravan was traveling Southbound in the Northbound lane when it collided head-on with a 2012 Dodge Caravan traveling Northbound in the Northbound lane.
A 40-year-old female from Omaha was not wearing a seatbelt and a 51-year-old female from Fort Morgan Colorado was wearing a seat belt, were both killed in the crash. A 32-year-old Male from Phoenix Arizona, was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and transported to the hospital by Mercy Air Care. A 52-year-old male from Fort Morgan was wearing a seatbelt and transported to the hospital by Burgess Ambulance. A 21-year-old female from Fort Morgan Colorado was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the hospital by Burgess Ambulance and then Mercy Air Care to another hospital.
Crews from Monona County Sheriff's Office, Iowa State Patrol, Blenco Fire, Onawa Fire Rescue, Burgess Ambulance and Mercy Air Care Assisted. The interestate was closed to Northbound traffic for about 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. Some vehicles had to wait a couple hours to get turned around and rerouted. The crash remains under investigation.
