Vehicle Number 1 a Nissan Rogue with 4 passengers dropped off the road, over-corrected and collided head-on into Vehicle Number 2 a Dodge Dakota with 1 Passenger. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing their seatbelts. A six-year-old in Vehicle Number 1 died of their injuries, the driver sustained life-threatening injuries another passenger serious injuries and the fourth non-life-threatening injuries. Vehicle Number Number 2's only occupant received serious injuries.

Highway 75 was closed for several hours after a head-on collision on the North end of Merrill Monday, September 17th about 8:45 pm sending multiple people to the hospital with varying injuries, some critical. At least one person died as a result of injuries sustained.
Iowa State Patrol says an SUV, a 2009 Nissan Rogue that was southbound on Highway 75 appears to have left the roadway and lost control when reentering the roadway crossing into the Northbound lane and colliding head=on into a 2008 Dodge Dakota.
Multiple Patients, some critical were transported to Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars the critical were then transported to a Sioux Falls Hospital. At least one person died.
Iowa State Patrol, Plymouth County Sheriff, Le Mars Police, Merrill Police, Hinton Police, Le Mars Fire and EMS, Merrill Fire and EMS, and Hinton Fire and EMS all responded. Vehicles were removed by Stockton Towing after the on-scene accident investigation was complete.
