About 1:00 pm Wednesday afternoon a note was found in a high school classroom in Le Mars threatening a shooting at the school. Chief Vande Vegte said the execution of lockout policy was flawless and communication between law enforcement and the school was excellent.
Police responded immediately and the investigation found that a student left the note but that nobody was ever in any danger however precautionary measures were required. Police were able to identify a suspect and get a confession within about an hour to an hour and a half and ensure.
As a precaution, officers walked through all schools, which were also on Lock Out in Le Mars in addition to the high school to ensure the safety of all. School will resume as normal on Thursday.
