Five arrested after breaking into Sloan apartment taking a dog and money

Court documents say that 5 individuals broke down a door to an apartment on Beal Street in Sloan Iowa about 9:20 pm on Wednesday, December 12th in an attempt to get money from the occupant of the apartment owed to one of the individuals involved in the break-in.

The occupant escaped the apartment through a window before calling 911. Robert Steiner and Jacob Petty entered the apartment, Steiner found money and handed it to Petty. Kelly Hegge entered the apartment picking up an infant child before putting the child back down. Shallya Oertig-Smith entered the apartment yelling. The fifth suspect Nathopolis Williams who watched from outside as the others went in. The five took a dog belonging to the occupant before leaving.

A short time later a deputy patrolling in the area heard the dispatch for the burglary and the described suspects vehicle, which was spotted getting onto Interstate 29 from Sloan and initiated a traffic stop. In the process of the traffic stop the driver, Shallya Oertwig-Smith admitted to being in possession of Marijuana.

In the process of the investigation, Deputies arrested the following.

Shallya Arlean Oertwig-Smith, 23 charged with Burglary 2nd and Possession of Marijuana.

Robert Anthony Steiner, 26 charged with Burglary 2nd.

Keely Shae Hegge, 22 charged with Burglary 2nd.

Jacob Michael Petty, 29 charged with Burglary 2nd.

Nathopolis Gerald Williams, 32 charged with Burglary 2nd.
