Teen dies as a result of injuries sustained during Sunday morning apartment fire in Sioux City

Police identify the 16-year-old victim of an early Sunday morning fire in Sioux City as Misael Gonzalez Velasquez, who died early Monday morning. A release from Sioux City Police says Misael died about 3:00 am Monday at St. Elizabeth Burn and Wound Center in Lincoln.

Sioux City Fire and Police responded to 2008 Ingleside in Sioux City about 3:40 am Sunday Morning March 11th for reports of an apartment on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found an apartment engulfed in flames and a 16-year-old unresponsive in the apartment.

The fire was quickly extinguished, CPR was administered to a 16-year-old unidentified male who is a resident of the apartment, a release from Sioux City Police says he was resuscitated at least two times and transported to Mercy Medical Center and then transported to St. Elizabeth Regional Burn and Wound Center in Lincoln for burns and smoke inhalation.

The apartment building has been retagged and 13 occupants misplaced due to the fire. The cause of the fire of the fire is believed to be accidental and no foul play is expected.
