According to the preliminary investigation conducted by deputies, it was determined that the accident was caused by a Westbound vehicle mistakenly being in the Eastbound lane of the highway. The intrusion into oncoming traffic led to a collision with another vehicle.
Winona Rice, a 79-year-old resident of Winnebago, Nebraska, lost her life in the collision. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, whose identity has not been released, suffered injuries and was taken to a Sioux City hospital for medical attention. Authorities have not provided further details about the condition of the injured driver.
The Nebraska State Patrol assisted at the scene.
