Court Documents for charges against Liborio Martinez-Rubio who's currently in custody in Woodbury County on $500,000 Bond include charges for multiple firearms, including stolen ones, illegal drugs including methamphetamine, and marijuana. They say about $100,000 in cash was also recovered at the scene.
About 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 10th 26-year-old Javier Cheron was brought to Mercy Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest and died a short time later. The investigation led police to 1609 Jones Street, the occupant Liborio Martinez-Rubio has been charged with numerous felonies after a search warrant was executed.
The search of the residence led to the recovery of 6 handguns. Two M&P .40 Caliber, Sig Sauer .22 Caliber, Browning .380 caliber, and a Modello .380 caliber. The 2 M&P's were identified as stolen. Martinez-Rubio admitted that some of the firearms were his and he had recently fired them. This led to 6 counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and 2 counts of trafficking stolen firearms.
Police also found approximately 188 grams of methamphetamine and 42 grams of marijuana. The meth was separated into approximately 20 different bags packaged for sale. The marijuana in 3 different bags. Two packaged for sale. Additionally 4 digital scale, numerous plastic bags, and about $100,000 in cash were also located. Martinez-Rubio was charged with possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to affix a drug tax stamp.
In addition to the half-million dollar bond Martinez-Rubio is being held for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In a press conference on January 11th, Police Chief Mueller praised officers and investigators on the work on this case as well as other incidents on Wednesday. Sergeant Bertrand said they are speculating that the homicide is drug-related and that Martinez-Rubio and Cheron were associates. At this time Martinez-Rubio has not been charged in connection with the homicide. The investigation into the homicide is ongoing
