About 2:30 pm on Saturday a fire broke out at a 1000 head hog confinement located at 6195 A Avenue in Pierson, Iowa. Fire Departments from Woodbury, Plymouth, and Cherokee Counties responded to the fire.
Two buildings were destroyed in the blaze but no hogs died as the buildings had recently undergone renovation and were empty. Other hogs were moved to ensure their safety.
Pierson, Correctionville, Moville, Marcus, Kingsley, Remsen, Washta, and Quimby responded. The fire was mostly extinguished by 4:30 pm. By 5:30 pm most departments had left the scene.
